As you may have already learned via this site's upcoming events page, from last week's Embedded Vision Insights newsletter, or through the special events showcase on the DESIGN East site, the Embedded Vision Alliance will host the Embedded Vision Summit on September 19 in Boston, Massachusetts. The Summit will provide a technical educational forum for engineers, along with business and technology analysts and press members, and will include how-to presentations, seminars, demonstrations, and opportunities to interact with Alliance member companies.

The keynote speaker at the Embedded Vision Summit will be Professor Rosalind Picard of the MIT Media Lab. Professor Picard is founder and director of the Affective Computing Research Group at the MIT Media Laboratory, co-director of the Things That Think Consortium (the largest industrial sponsorship organization at the lab) and leader of the new and growing Autism & Communication Technology Initiative at MIT. She is also co-founder, chief scientist and chairman of Affectiva, Inc., making technology to help measure and communicate emotion.

If you're interested in learning more about affective computing, you might be interested in the contents of an email I received the other day from the IEEE Communications Society. With sponsorship from Samsung, the IEEE has published a complimentary tutorial called "Affective Computing for Future Consumer Electronics." Here's the description:

This newly posted 90 minute presentation from IEEE Communications' Consumer Networking Conference (CCNC) covers emerging smartphone applications. Behaviors and tools for speech and emotion recognition, and facial expressions are discussed.

Click here to audition the tutorial for yourself.

Here you’ll find a wealth of practical technical insights and expert advice to help you bring AI and visual intelligence into your products without flying blind.
